Christmas Cardinal Diorama-nostalgic Christmas art assemblage-shadow box-old fashioned holilday mixed media.
 
This box is reminiscent of the old saying "when cardinals appear, angels are near". I find this old primitive tale to present with absolute truth. 
 
This box is 12 x 6 x 2". I gave it a walnut stain, provided a distressed medium, then painted it a shade of antique white.
 
This box is full of nostalgic Christmas pieces old, new, and some upcycled pieces. The main focus piece is the cardinal (red bird) in the middle, which is inside a tin frame. I brushed it over with gold glitter and added an embellishment on top. Miniature house ornaments, a reindeer head with a jingle bell, a resin reindeer, and repurposed tin star are alongside vintage snowmen and two bottle trees. A little penguin waits beside a streetlight with a sign bearing the South Pole and North Pole. In the top corner is a little resin piece I made with tiny Christmas pieces inside a bottle top. The other top corner bears a red hand-painted cross with an old piece of jewelry on it. 
 
This is a box for those who like an old-fashioned style Christmas. The vintage pieces mix alongside some modern pieces but, the theme is vintage and resonates much simpler times. 
 
This piece is handmade and one of a kind. There may be small imperfections, which is consistent with vintage and handmade items. Each box is made carefully with love and hopefully, will make you smile. Sometimes, I don't see strands of glue left behind right away but, if it's there, it's no big deal to tweeze it off. It can hang with the sawtooth hanger on back or sit freestanding.
 
My shadowbox pieces are eclectic and made from combinations of used and found objects, vintage items, and store purchased finds. I try to upcycle with various pieces when allowable and mix them with modern pieces for a diverse and unique assemblage. I've tried to capture the details in photos so please, look very carefully before purchasing.
