Ghost Dance is not a fragrance that just came to me overnight or lightly. In the back of my mind, this fragrance had to be something that was very unique yet, simple at the same time. Ghost Dance has become a formulation that I've been slowly piecing together for the past three years or so, writing scents down that just come to me out of the blue over time and usually when I'm least expecting it.

Although it is said the Ghost Dance started in the west in the late 1800's, there are earlier accounts of it being practiced by some of the Southeastern tribes of American Indians during the early 1800's. Wherever it actually began is of no consequence. It will always be very meaningful to myself and others like me. There are just some things that live in one's heart and come to you whether you ask for it or not. My great-grandfathers and great-grandmothers were from the southeastern bands of Native Americans. The Ghost Dance is thought to have been practiced for 100's of years in some circles. Others say it started with the prophet for peace, Jack Wilson, also known as "Wovoka" of the Paiute Nation in the late 1800's. He said this vision of the Ghost Dance came to him from God. I am a firm believer in visions and do believe we experience them and sometimes not even realize it. Wovoka even stated he had to experience it for a second time and claimed he had more knowledge when he finally saw it for what it was. It began as a religious movement with the meaning of "fight no one, hate no one". The dance was to bring back peace, prosperity and happiness for a nation of people who had been devastated by disease, famine, and slaughter. Among some tribes it was practiced in order to install normalcy back from the ways of white men. Many believed by participating in the dance, it would make them invincible. Many non-Natives were offended by, and misunderstood this dance. Technically, an entire nation of original Americans were totally misunderstood in my opinion. It's too bad people cannot bring back the "Ghost Dance" and practice and live what it originally stood for and meant. In my own way, I am trying to capture a piece of it in this very special scent. It's for all those who still have the "Spirit" in their hearts and who want to live in peace and practice standards and character of living and being a decent individual who treats others with humanity and dignity. I'm in the firm belief that "Ghost Dance" will always be evolving into something bigger and greater.
