The Reading Coffin Diorama- black coffin shadow box- book lovers art - music lovers- vintage 1970's chess pieces- chess lovers art.
 
The dimensions of this box are 15 x 8 x 3 1/4". The black box is shaped like a coffin.. The coffin is trimmed in gold and black rhinestones. Inside the coffin are three shelves.
 
The top shelf has a seated reader with her glass of wine listening to an old phonograph playing a record. A couple more books await to be read underneath her stocking red bear. Two old chess pieces sit in front of the stereo. A gold trumpet is behind the reader and a retro doll face is against a yellow painted circle with red glass pieces and a clock face. She's the introvert of the group until she plays that horn. Who would've thought?
 
The middle shelf has three vintage chess pieces from the 1970's. The background is scrapbooking paper from a storybook and a piece of floral upcycled metal jewelry hangs on it. Two little odd girl characters stand on either side of the rook. This reader is lying down to read her book and has another waiting to be read. There are two smaller old chess pieces alongside another musical horned instrument. This reader prefers the company of her daughters, as long as they are playing chess and not interrupting her sci-fi techno-thrillers. 
 
The bottom shelf has more upcycled jewelry in the background. This reader is sitting crosslegged and of course, he has more books to read after the one he's reading. His beloved white owl is beside him sitting on a drum and his horned instrument sits off to the side. Miniature resin filled bottles are in front of the reader. Will he share them with the other readers? Perhaps not. He is the loner, yet extroverted guitar player of the group who loves the company of his pet owl. Although, he's secretly crushing the gal who lives above him.
 
This is a year-round display piece. It'd be an unusual and strange gift for goth lovers, book lovers, music lovers, chess lovers, wine lovers, and the rest of the story is left up to you. 
 
My shadowbox pieces are eclectic and made from combinations of used and found objects, vintage items, and store purchased finds. I try to upcycle with various pieces when allowable and mix them with modern pieces for a diverse and unique assemblage. This piece can be hung with the sawtooth hanger on back, but can stand upright all on its own. I've tried to capture the details in photos so please, look very carefully before purchasing.

The items inside are not removable. They are glued in with very strong-bonding glue.
